Wedding Planning on a Budget - Find Ways to Save Money on Your Wedding Ceremony and Reception

Planning the wedding of your dreams does not have to cost as much as you may think. There are several things you can do that will end up saving you hundreds or even thousands of dollars. If you are planning a wedding on a budget, use some of the money-saving strategies to help you cut the cost.

Narrow down your needs. Begin by asking recently married friends what they recall and treasure about their wedding day. You might be surprised at how little some of them remember. Your wedding day is usually like a whirlwind of events surrounded by a few moments that you truly hold dear. Friends who have been though the experience before can help trim down the list of things you would like to spend on, and they can help you decide on what is most important.

Get crafty. Items like wedding favors and invitations can get fairly expensive. Wedding favors can be as simple as candy bars with personalized wrappers that you could design and print yourself. For your invitations, purchase some inexpensive card stock and print them at home. A lot of people will end up throwing your invitation in the trash so it is literally like throwing money away to purchase expensive ones. Simply do not pay someone to do what you can do yourself.

Use wedding vendor discounts. Some wedding vendors offer various discounts that many couples may not even know about. Many venues offer discounts if you are married on a Sunday instead of a Saturday or in the winter instead of the spring. Others may offer a discount if you book them for a friend's wedding. Ask all your vendors what discounts they offer and utilize them as much as you can.

Trim down your guest list. You do not have to invite everyone you have ever met to your wedding. This is probably one of the most common mistakes that brides make. Limiting the number of guests will save money on invitations, postage, and food. Keep your reception under four hours. Most venues charge extra if you use their facilities for over four hours. You may also have to pay your DJ, photographer, or videographer for overtime. Also, people will drink more if the reception is extremely long, which is more money you will have to pay.

It is very important to stick to a budget when planning your wedding day. Remember, this day symbolizes the beginning of your life as a married couple. Do you want to start that life in debt?
